Appointments: New partners at Squire Patton Boggs; Liverpool Vision & more

INTERNATIONAL law firm Squire Patton Boggs has strengthened its labour and employment and real estate teams in Manchester with the promotion of Bryn Doyle and Jonathan Brooke to the partnership.

Doyle’s expertise covers a wide range of employment issues including discrimination, unfair and wrongful dismissal, TUPE issues and redundancy.  An experienced advocate, Mr. Doyle regularly represents clients in Employment Tribunals.  He  is also head of the firm’s retail sector group in Manchester.

Real estate lawyer Brooke’s practice focuses on all aspects of commercial property, with a particular expertise in site acquisition and development transactions.  He works across both commercial and residential development schemes, and is a specialist in supported living and extra care schemes.

Their promotions are part of a global promotional round in which a total of 40 lawyers have been promoted as partners and principals within the firm.

LIVERPOOL Vision, the city’s economic development agency has  appointed Ellen Cutler as its director of investment.

Cutler, who has worked in the US, joins from Sheffied City Region LEP, and will focus on luring inward investment to the city.

She said: “As soon as I saw this role, I knew it was an excellent fit. Liverpool is at such an interesting stage – it has many factors which would entice inward investment, and the eyes of the business world will be on it next year when it again hosts the International Festival for Business.

“There are some major infrastructure and corporate investments already under way in the city and we can build on these and the existing sector strengths of the city to make a compelling investment case. I am extremely excited to get started.”

Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, added: “As Liverpool Vision focuses even further on inward investment, Ellen’s experience and skills will be invaluable in attracting people to bring business and jobs to the city. One of the things that stood out was her experience of working internationally, which is vital to a position like this.”

VINCENTS Solicitors has expanded its criminal law team with the appointment of solicitor Laura Heywood.

Based in Preston but working across the firm’s network of offices in Lancashire, Heywood is also a High Court Advocate, enabling her to represent clients in the criminal courts, in lieu of a barrister.

Her arrival follows the firm’s recent acquisition of Blackpool-based Colebournes Solicitors, which has made Vincents one of the largest criminal law firms in Lancashire.

Joining from Southern Solicitors in Burnley, Heywood studied to be a barrister before qualifying as a solicitor in 2008.

EXPERIENCED motor sector professional Richard Braithwaite has joined North West dealership Corkhills Volkswagen as sales manager.

Braithwaite, 45, joins the Wigan business with 20 years’ experience in the trade and is leading a sales team of seven.

He said: “Having worked in the area previously I have known the dealership and its fantastic brand for a long time. I am delighted to have joined the Corkills Volkswagen team and have instantly been made to feel welcome.”
