Shankly Hotel plan presented to council

PLANS to turn former council offices in Liverpool city centre into the Shankley Hotel have been submitted.

Developer Signature Living wants to turn Millennium House on Victoria Street into an 83-room hotel, including a gym, a function suite and rooftop terrace.

The building was acquired by Signature Living for just above £4.3m.

According to the council the hotel, in honour of the former Liverpool FC boss Bill Shankly, will complement the city’s cultural and tourism credentials, create 200 jobs and has secured the future of the council gym which has been doubled in size as part of the agreement.

However, Liverpool Lib/Dem Cllr Richard Kemp was criticised the authority for not putting the site out to tender ahead of the planned conversion.

But the council has said the money it received was above an independent valuation and will lead to £20m being poured into the city centre economy.

Agent for the application is Manchester-based Planning Studio.
