Constructor cracks on with regeneration scheme

BARDSLEY Construction has secured a further contract with City West Housing Trust to build 35 homes as part of the Barton Village regeneration scheme in Salford.

The £3.5m project will involve the creation of affordable housing units designed by architects Halsall Lloyd Partnership.

Construction work has already started on site with phase one of 12 two-storey townhouses for shared ownership.

Phase two involves eight one and two-bed apartments for affordable rent with the third phase – to start later in the summer – will see 15 new units in a mix of townhouses and one and two-bed apartments, also for affordable rent.

The project continues a long standing relationship between Dukinfied, Tameside-based Bardsley and CWHT, following the successful delivery of a £13.2m contract in 2014 to provide 73 affordable family homes, five bungalows for older people and an extra care scheme to accommodate more than 70 residents in Little Hulton, West Salford.

Ged Rooney, procurement director of Bardsley, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our burgeoning partnership with City West by playing a major role in the development of both Barton Village and the district of Amblecote.

“The awarding of this latest contract shows we continue to build on our hard-earned reputation for outstanding works for the public sector with a strong emphasis on collaborative partnerships with clients including housing associations, local authorities, education bodies and health authorities.”

Nigel Sedman, director of investment and regeneration at Manchester-based CWHT, said: “Following the success of our previous contracts with Bardsley Construction, we look forward to providing yet more high quality housing for Salford with this latest project delivered as part of the regeneration of Barton Village.

“City West is committed to the provision and support of sustainable neighbourhoods and the Barton Village scheme will provide excellent quality housing plus training and employment opportunities for local people.”
