Appointments: CH1ChesterBID; FDR Law; Asons & more

A NEW chairman has been appointed to lead Chester’s Business Improvement District (BID) and to support the continued drive for a more vibrant and successful city centre.

Following an extensive recruitment exercise and interviews with a number of potential candidates, the CH1ChesterBID Board named Ed Oliver the man to take the role.

Oliver takes the helm following a distinguished career in retail and business. He has spent 28 years in management roles with Marks and Spencer and running Clayton Square shopping centre

As well as his retail background, Oliver’s previously held roles include chairman of Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, vice-chairman of the Prince’s Trust Merseyside, chairman of the Liverpool BID Company and non-executive director at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Oliver’s other current roles include chairman of the Ronald McDonald Family House Trust, Alder Hey, which provides accommodation for 84 families of sick children at the hospital, and non-executive director at The Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust Hospital.

A NEW commercial property solicitor has joined the commercial department of Warrington legal firm, FDR Law.

Lynne Cook, who is based at the firm’s Bold Street office, will boost the specialist commercial team dealing with landlord and tenant issues, and land acquisitions and disposals.

She joins FDR from the large Manchester law firm DWF, where she was employed as a commercial property specialist for 14 years.

Her work involved a number of large corporate disposals, including a car dealership and major house builder, and representing liquidators, receivers and administrators in insolvency-related property cases.

She said: “I am delighted to join a local Warrington law firm with such a strong commercial department which really punches above its weight. I hope to be able to use my specialist insolvency knowledge to expand the services that FDR can offer to its property clients.”

BOLTON law firm Asons Solicitors has welcomed Emma Edwards to its clinical negligence department.

Edwards is a qualified solicitor and brings a wealth of legal sector experience after spending the last seven years at CM Solicitors of St John Street in Manchester.
 
She will be dealing with a range of medical negligence matters including errors and delays in treatment, incorrect treatment, delays in diagnosis, misdiagnosis and injury or death from treatment.

Edwards said: “I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues in this often complex and challenging area of law.”

CHESTER- based chartered accountants McLintocks have appointed Helen Mills as senior audit manager with a view to growing and developing their audit practice.

Mills, 30, began her training with KPMG in Manchester; and has nine years’ experience working for top ten accountancy firms.

Most recently, she worked within the Manchester office of Grant Thornton where she was responsible for a portfolio of audit clients including subsidiaries of international groups, owner managed and private equity backed businesses, and not-for-profit organisations across the North West.
 
She has a wide range of skills across a number of sectors including general manufacturing, retail, distribution and food and beverage.

WALKER Sime celebrated 15 years in business with a lavish party for clients, industry colleagues, friends and its team at Members on the seventh floor at MediaCityUK.  

The company, which offers  a range of services to the property and construction industry invited more than 300 guests to celebrate its landmark year..

Walker Sime client contacts from Peel Holdings, BAE Systems, Keppel Seghers, ENW, Northernway Property and MUSE joined the team to celebrate their birthday.

Walker Sime has recently strengthened its team with the appointment of Duncan Firth to lead and develop its project management service offering. Duncan joins from Deloitte Real Estate in Manchester.

The company has also announced plans to open a London office to help service its growing client base and opportunities in the South and South East.

CHESTER-based professional services firm Knights has recruited a new partner with more than 20 years’ legal experience to its growing team of professionals.

Emma McGlinchey joins the property development team at the firm, which has seen the team grow to over 45 since opening less than two years ago.

After working in Liverpool, London and Manchester, Critchley has returned to Chester to bring her property expertise to the Knights’ team.

“I’m delighted to be joining the team at Knights and building on the four years I’ve recently spent working in Chester.” she said.

NANOCO Group, the specialist in the development and manufactur of cadmium-free quantum dots and other nanomaterials, has appointed David Blain as chief financial officer.

Blain will join the Manchester-based company on August 3. He is a chartered accountant with considerable operational, commercial and strategic experience gained at a number of businesses quoted on the London Stock Exchange.

He is joining Nanoco from the role of chief financial officer at Inspired Capital, an AIM traded finance provider.
