Medical products firm lands £2m Middle East deal

LIVERPOOL–based medical products specialist Algeos has won a contract in the Middle East worth more than £2m.

Liverpool-based Algeos has secured the tender with the Gulf Cooperation Council to supply a range of products to countries including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The contract will see Algeos distributing products including orthotic and prosthetic materials and components, diabetic foot products and orthopaedic bracing.

This follows on from a previous tender won by the company with the GCC. Algeos received advice and support from UKTI as part of Algeos’ wider global expansion plans.
Chief executive of ALG, which owns Algeos, Hugh Sheridan, said: “Winning the GCC tender reinforces our position in the Middle East and demonstrates our capabilities in the face of global competition from corporate players in the United States and Germany.

“We are the only western company to have a dedicated office in the Middle East, a sign of our commitment to the region. We are also unique in being able to offer products covering podiatry, physiotherapy and O&P.

“Tender successes such as this are also reward for the significant investment we continue to make in training and education in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world.

“In order to secure this work, we had to go through an extremely rigorous and challenging process, but in being successful we have ensured that our company’s global growth plans remain very much on track.”

ALG International Holdings achieved turnover of £12m in 2014, up from £10.7million in the previous year.

However, the rate of growth outside of the UK was most eye-catching with its offices in Los Angeles and Dubai seeing year-on-year revenue increases of 54 and 48% respectively. Its Melbourne office reported 20% growth.

ALG owns and operates eight medical product brands covering orthotics and prosthetics, podiatry and physiotherapy.

These include Diaped, the leading diabetic foot brand, Podotech and Slimflex, which provide foot care specialists with a range of innovative products, and Aortha, offering the latest material technology for use within the orthotics and prosthetics sector.

ALG, which is headquartered in Speke, Merseyside, distributes to more than 70 countries worldwide.

Sheridan said: “We have a reputation not only as a provider of industry-leading medical products, but increasingly as a leader in innovation and technology.

“We will continue to develop and bring to market life-changing products that not only change the way people move, but also the way they feel.”
