TWO Lancashire accountancy firms which can trace their roots back to the late 19th century have merged.

The deal between Rushtons Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers and Titus Thorp & Ainsworth will see the firm increase its presence across the county.

Staff at Titus Thorp & Ainsworth’s North Road office in Preston will transfer to the expanded Rushtons business at its Fulwood offices. Titus Thorp & Ainsworth’s office at Highfield Road in Blackpool will continue to operate.

All staff will move to Rushtons, with Michael Muschamp and Brian Taylor, directors at Titus Thorp & Ainsworth, joining the board at Rushtons.

The expanded firm will operate under the Rushtons name.

Titus Thorp & Ainsworth was advised on corporate, employment and property issues by a team from Napthens solicitors led by corporate partner Rob Dobson. Rushtons was advised by Marsden Rawsthorn solicitors.

Mr Dobson said: “Both businesses are well-established in the region with excellent reputations, and this merger will allow Rushtons to have an increased presence in Blackpool and The Fylde.”

Neil Calvert, managing director of Rushtons, said: “I have known Michael and Brian for many years and look forward to us combining our expertise to be able to provide an enhanced service for all our clients.

“It was obvious from our early discussions that the firms had similar philosophies and I expect a smooth transition.”

Mr Muschamp added: “I am very excited what the new larger entity will be able to offer and can only see this as being good for our clients.”
