Snow handed Rat & Parrot construction brief

CONSTRUCTION work is now under way on a project to redevelop the former Rat & Parrot pub on Queen Square, Liverpool.

Developers Promenade Estates has appointed Merseyside contractors WH Snow to deleiver the £1m project.

The site on the corner of Whitechapel, had been empty for more than  three years before Promenade Estates, previously known as Neptune Investments, submitted plans at the end of last year to redevelop the building.

The project, designed by DK-Architects, will see the installation of a new façade on the 14,500 sq ft building with perforated aluminium cladding and glazing, with incorporated LED lighting that will play on the building’s prominent corner location.

The renovated building has been designed to accommodate a number of new tenants in Queen Square. Restaurants and leisure operators are expected to take up the new tenancies and will join the likes of La Tasca, Nando’s and Buffalo Jacks in the area.

Work on the development is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Daniel Hynd, managing director of Promenade Estates, says: “There are lots of exciting things happening at Queen Square in the next few months and we’re happy to announce that W H Snow have started construction on site with the transformation of the old Rat & Parrot building.

“The regeneration of the pub is part of the next phase of growth for Queen Square. The renovation of the building will provide space for three new tenants which will bring new international names to the city and cement the strong leisure offering already available in the area.”

Tom Murphy, construction director at WH Snow, says: “We have worked alongside Promenade Estates for the past couple of years, including the construction of The Prom @ New Brighton project, and we’re looking forward to continue this working relationship with the regeneration of the Rat & Parrot pub in Queen Square.”
