S&W lands £2.2m revamp deal for Lowry

PROPERTY services and project delivery specialist Styles & Wood has been awarded a £2.2m contract for a refurbishment project at The Lowry in Salford Quays.

Under plans to extend the restaurant and bar at the landmark theatre complex, the Manchester-based company will refurbish the current dining area and extend the existing facilities in two locations, onto the external terraces facing the Manchester Ship Canal and the Imperial War Museum North.

The 13-week project, which was awarded following a competitive tender process, will begin on-site sooo and will also include a new bar, and an enlarged and enhanced dining area and conference facility.

Operations director at Styles & Wood, Paul Lonsdale, said: “The Lowry is an iconic building in the North West and we’re delighted to be working on such an important project for the region.

“The centre attracts more than 800,000 visitors a year and the refurbishment works will ensure that The Lowry continues to be a prime leisure destination for both tourists and local residents alike.

“We have a great deal of expertise across the leisure sector, having recently completed a project at Leicester City Football Club, and this is a fantastic opportunity to further showcase our expertise in the industry.”

Management and property consultant AA Projects is providing project management, quantity surveying and CDM-C services on the delivery of the project, having originally worked closely with The Lowry client team on the funding application to the Arts Council of England.

Niall Wright, director at AA Projects, added: “This is an exciting opportunity that forms a key part of The Lowry’s 2020 Vision project.

“Alongside these works to the restaurant and bar areas, we have also been involved in managing the delivery of an exciting sustainability improvement LED replacement project throughout The Lowry, which will significantly reduce the energy demands of the building and reduce running costs. The restaurant and bar refurbishment will much enhance the visitor facilities and improve links to MediaCity UK and the surrounding area.”
