THE Royal Bank of Scotland has appointed Richard Smart as the new head of structured finance, Corporate and Commercial Banking, North of England.

He will be leading a dedicated team of 15 debt specialists who are tasked with enhancing the speed and consistency of debt delivery for existing and new customers across the North of England.

The team’s focus is on the origination, structuring and execution of event driven and leveraged debt financings such as MBO, M&A, and growth funding.

They will also support entrepreneurs, private companies, AIM and FTSE listed businesses through their evolution, aiming to develop long term strategic relationships.

In 2014 the North Structured Finance team supported around 40 customers with in excess of £0.6bn – figures which are set to increase this year. To support the bank’s customer base, and in line with their clear mandate to lend, the North Structured Finance team is set to add to its headcount.

Smart has held various senior positions at the Royal Bank of Scotland including directly supporting the CEO of the Corporate & Institutional Bank and working extensively across Real Estate and Structured Finance.

LAW firm Bromleys has boosted its commercial property arm with the appointment of assistant solicitor Joseph Seyed Hossein.

He has joined Bromleys, based in Ashton-under-Lyne, from Maya Solicitors in Oldham, where he managed the firm’s property department.

He began his legal career at Cobbetts in Manchester and has since worked at firms including Keoghs and Asons Solicitors in Bolton.

Seyed Hossein is the latest arrival at Bromleys, following the appointments earlier this year of family law specialists Samantha Clifford and Judy Bell, and Rachael Barrett and Kate Fletcher to its Court of Protection and wills, probate and trusts teams respectively.

He joins Bromleys’ corporate and commercial team, which is led by partner Paul Westwell.

Westwelll said: “Joseph has wide-ranging knowledge and experience of commercial and residential property matters and has a strong track record of providing a highly-professional service to clients.”
