Appointments: EEF; RICS; Hillyer McKeown & more

THE manufacturers’ organisation EEF has appointed Steve Warren as its new North West region director.

He will be stepping into the role on October 12 and will be based out of EEF’s regional headquarters and training centre at Glazebrook, Warrington.

Warren will be leading a team of experts responsible for ensuring that North West manufacturers get every possible support in growing their businesses and staying up-to-date on key issues, such as employment law, health and safety and sustainability.

He will also work alongside EEF members in the region to influence both the regional and national policy agenda in order to create the best possible environment for manufacturing in the North West.

Warren joins EEF from Ferranti Technologies, a global defence and aerospace business based in Oldham, where he was managing director. He has also been an active member of EEF’s North West Regional Advisory Board for the last five years.

EEF membership director Andrew Buckley said: “Steve will be a tremendous addition to our organisation and to the support we can offer manufacturers in the North West. He joins at a time of great challenge, but also great opportunity for UK manufacturing. His leadership, experience and expertise will be instrumental in helping businesses in this region to continue to grow.”

MATTHEW Fedigan has become chairman of the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) North West Regional Board.

Fedigan, who is director at building consultancy Domec in Liverpool, will lead the board and provide leadership and guidance on a range of objectives to set and improve local industry standards.

Activities will include influencing government policy and encouraging more young talent in to the industry by raising awareness of the various careers available in the land, property and construction sectors.

The North West Regional Board is made up of 10 chartered surveyors from both the public and private sector working across the full spectrum of surveying disciplines, and Fedigan, a chartered building surveyor, has held a seat on it for the past two years.

Fedigan, said: “I’ve really enjoyed working with RICS over the past two years to develop and deliver a range of initiatives which are having a positive impact on our local industry. So I am delighted to accept the role of Chair of the RICS North West Regional Board.”

LAW firm Hillyer McKeown has made the head of its wills, trusts and estates department, Ruth Heap, a partner.

Heap joined the firm in 2011 and recently qualified as a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

She was also one of a select group in the North West to given membership of the worldwide professional association aimed at those responsible for handling family inheritance and succession planning matters.

Hillyer McKeown, which employs 72 people across its four offices in Chester, Liverpool, Wirral and Deeside, provides clients with a comprehensive range of business and personal legal services. It is also able to offer its clients a number of additional business services including financial services and marketing and PR.

Hillyer McKeown is led by managing partner Steve Harvey and fellow senior management team members Richard Burnett, Lindsey Kidd, Caroline Jones and Paul Marsh.

STUART Barnes has been appointed as The Hive Youth Zone’s new general manager and immediately starts his role as he aims to drive Wirral’s new £6m youth facility forward.

The project is fast becoming a reality with the recent news that a planning application to build The Hive Youth Zone, was approved by Wirral Borough Council.

The new Youth Zone is to be built on Exmouth Street, adjacent to the new fire station, in the centre of Birkenhead.
