Garden centre is blossoming into low carbon homes for 200 people

WORK is underway transforming a brownfield site in Knowsley once used as a garden centre into modern housing for nearly 200 people.

Liverpool Mutual Homes’ (LMH) £6.5m scheme will see 52 energy efficient homes built in Field Lane.

More than £1m of grant funding support came from the Homes and Communities Agency.

The land was formerly used as Buckels Garden Centre and is now being regenerated by MCI Developments on behalf of LMH.

The development will see 24 two-bed homes, 22 three-bed homes, four homes with four bedrooms and two bungalows with two bedrooms.

Energy efficiency measures will include modern heating systems, efficient boilers and high levels of insulation.

All homes will enjoy car parking spaces and private rear landscaped gardens.

LMH chief executive Steve Coffey said: “It is our first development in Knowsley as we continue to build to help address the housing shortage in Merseyside.

“The mix of two, three and four bedroom properties has been carefully considered so we can provide homes for a wide range of people who have different family sizes and circumstances.

“The site is surrounded by traditional suburban housing and the development will fit in perfectly.

“It is a prime location for people to make home because it is close to two supermarkets, Fazakerley Hospital, Field Lane park and many other local community facilities.

“The transport links are excellent with the M57 easy to get to and good bus and train services to Liverpool city centre.”

Knowley cabinet member of regeneration and economic development Cllr Mike Murphy said:“We are proud to support the development of new, high quality housing in the borough helping to make it a great place for families to set up home.

“There is an established demand for housing in Knowsley and the development on Field Lane is another great example of our commitment to deliver housing growth to meet this demand.”

As part of the scheme, a new private and secure car park will be made for Gingerbread Cottage Childrens’ Nursery, which is next to the site.
