People: GMCC; Mills & Reeve; Davis Blank Furniss & more

WAYNE Jones has taken over as president of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
 
Jones, chairman of MAN Diesel & Turbo Ltd UK and head of global after sales for the MDT Group, was inaugurated as the Chamber’s annual meeting at its headquarters on Deansgate.

He takes over the post from Neil Smith MBE, managing director of Kinetic. Steve Burne from AEW Architects remains vice president.

Working with MAN since 2005, Wayne Jones has been leading the company’s Diesel engine After Sales and Service business since 2010.

The confirmation of Jones’ presidency comes in the same week that it was announced he will be joining the MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, executive board as the company’s new chief sales officer. He will formally take on the new role – the first Briton to hold such a role – on January 1 2016.

THE Manchester office of national law firm Mills & Reeve has strengthened its corporate team with the appointment of Martyn Heyes.

He joins from Cheshire law firm SAS Daniels where he was a solicitor in the corporate team.

As an associate in the Mills & Reeve corporate team, Heyes will advise on all aspects of corporate finance and transaction work.

Niall Innes, head of the Manchester office, said: “Martyn’s appointment reflects our commitment to expanding our corporate and commercial teams in the region and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm.

Heyes added: “The firm has a fantastic reputation and I’m looking to help further develop the Manchester corporate team.”

DAVIS Blank Furniss – the Manchester and Glossop-based law firm – has appointed Rudi Kidd as a consultant solicitor specialising in entertainment, media, sports and intellectual property law.

His new role will see him grow the firm’s work within the music, film, television, sports, fashion and IT industries on both contentions and non-contentions matters.
 
Prior to joining Davis Blank Furniss, Rudi worked at IPS Law in Hale where he represented Premier League and Championship football clubs and sports agents.

He is a member of The Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, the USA-based lawyers group.

Kidd said: “I’m really excited to be joining Davis Blank Furniss. It’s a well-established firm with a very good reputation. There’s a real drive to expand both the services it offers and the kinds of clients it works with.”

ESSENTIAL Fleet Services has appointed Ed Hummel as commercial director.

Hummel joins us from EurotaxGlass’s, Europe’s leading provider of automotive data and intelligence, where he held the role of managing director. He has previously worked in sales leadership roles with several automotive organisations including Honda, Volkswagen and Ford Motor Company.

Essential Fleet Services is a Lincoln-based contract hire and leasing company backed by private equity investors, Endless with operations spanning the North West, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the South East, and has a turnover of approximately £43m.

RETAIL display installation experts CJ Retail Solutions has announced the appointment of communications expert Mike Houghton as its new marketing director.

In his new position at the Runcorn-based agency, Houghton will be responsible for ensuring that the company’s values and proposition are communicated and implemented correctly.

This will involve working hand-in-hand with the sales and operations teams on a day-to-day basis and, as a member of the board, Mike will contribute significantly to the scope and strategic growth of the business.

He brings with him a wealth of retail experience, having worked with some of the UK’s leading blue-chip companies, primarily in the grocery retail and retail banking sectors.
