Lighting company swallows Yorkshire rival

JONES Lighting, based in Leyland, Lancashire has successfully completed the purchase of Huddersfield lighting contractor Anderson & Heeley.

Jones Lighting is an independent provider of street lighting services in the North West and North Wales, including design, build and maintenance through to bespoke lighting solutions.

The acquisition, brokered by the Corporate and Restructuring team at Forbes Solicitors and McMillan & Co Chartered Accountants, will boost Anderson & Heeley’s presence in the contracting of street lighting, motorway lighting and signage in West Yorkshire.

Jones Lighting managing director David Jones said: “This was the first time that we have tried to expand by acquiring and although it was a challenge, due to the help and commitment of Forbes Solicitors and McMillan & Co  we have succeeded and will continue to look at other potential opportunities, as they arise.”

Douglas McMillan, senior partner of McMillan & Co has been the accountant and adviser to Jones Lighting since it was launched in 2008.

He said: “Jones Lighting has grown strongly over the last seven years and we have supported them in various ways over this period.

“The first acquisition by the company required a lot of detailed support throughout the process, during which we worked very closely with the company.

“The business acquisition will greatly strengthen the position of Jones Lighting in their sector.”

Pauline Rigby, partner and Nick Pickup, solicitor both of Forbes’ Corporate and Restructuring team advised on the transaction.

Rigby said: “We were pleased to be asked by Jones Lighting to help them with this transaction, the addition of Anderson & Heeley is a fantastic opportunity for the company and hopefully the start of an acquisitive growth strategy.”
