Public to cast eagle-eye on Nicklaus’ golf course
A BLUEPRINT for a multi-million pound golf course on the Wirral designed by the sport’s icon Jack Nicklaus is to go public view soon.
Hoylake and West Kirby resident get the chance to check on the progress of the proposed Hoylake Golf Resort during a series of drop-in sessions.
The sessions, organised by Wirral Council take place at Melrose Hall in Hoylake on Wednesday November 11, Thursday November 12 and Friday November 13 between 1pm and 7pm and at Westbourne Hall in West Kirby on Wednesday November 18, Thursday November 19 and Friday November 20, also between 1pm and 7pm.
Much progress has been made since the Nicklaus Joint Venture Group was announced as the preferred developer on the Golf Resort project in July and the drop-in sessions will be an opportunity for local people to look at how the proposals are developing and see for the first time how the various elements of the project link together.
Wirral Council leader, Cllr Phil Davies, said the events are being staged so local residents are engaged in the project as much as possible.
He said: “We are excited about this development and how it will add to Wirral’s already strong reputation for golf and leisure activities.
“Hoylake still holds the record for the highest number of visitors attending The Open in England, demonstrating what an important contributor to the economy of Hoylake, West Kirby and the Wirral golf can be.
“We share the developer’s ambition for Hoylake to be the capital of England’s NW Golf Coast, attracting visitors from across the UK as well as US, Japan and Europe to master the art of links golf at a purpose-built academy and play the courses along the region’s coast.
“It is important the council and the developers keep listening to local people as these proposals move forward.
“The (drop-in) events are just the first stage and there will be other opportunities for people to learn more as the project develops.
“As with many schemes like this, formal consultation will come later, but this is a timely opportunity to provide an update on the progress being made.”
