£15m Sensor City plans put forward

PLANS have been submitted for a £15m tech incubator in Liverpool.

The Sensor City scheme is a joint venture between Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool and will be located at Copperas Hill between Lime Street station and Russell Street.

The joint venture unveiled plans in December for the 25,000sq ft facility which will focus on creating, nurturing and establishing commercially viable hi-tech companies.

Plans have now been submitted to Liverpool City Council by architect IBI Group. If approved , the complex will house 300 businesses.

No deal has been made yet with a contractor is yet to be named for the project with the eventual deal said to be worth between £6m and £8m.

The Department for Business Innovation & Skills awarded a grant of £5m scheme last year, as part of the creation of one of the first university enterprise zones in Liverpool.

The Sensor City site is in £80m Copperas Hill development area.
