Office supplies firm toasts 35 years

A FAMILY business has set a goal of £2m sales in the next year after celebrating its 35th birthday.
Radcliffe-based Lex Business Equipment, which supplies office technology, stationery and furniture, is in a period of strong growth. Turnover in the year to the end of August was up nearly 20% to £1.45m, while profits rose 13%.
The company started out by supplying typewriters to businesses and colleges in the early 1980s from a small office in Haslingden. It later supplied Amstrad computers and then reprographic equipment.
These days it has eight staff and its range spans more than 22,000 office supplies products and it has more than 500 clients based throughout the UK.
Managing director, Wayne Elphick said: “The story to our success is our enthusiasm to embrace new workplace technologies, offer nothing less than an exceptional level service to our loyal customers and above all to be fair and honest”.
Mr Elphick’s son Sam, who has worked for the business for eight years, has been promoted from sales manager to sales director in recognition for his success in broadening the product range and developing a fast-growing online sales channel.
Elphick junior said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be accepted onto the board of directors and am excited about my new role, along with the responsibilities and demands it brings.”
Lex has clients in a range of sectors including professional services, education, public & private healthcare, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing.
As a result of its continued growth the firm aims to continue its apprenticeship scheme in 2016 by recruiting for an administrative apprentice and also specialist photocopier service engineer.
