Town hall pay league revealed

THE former chief executive of Cumbria County Council has been named as the best paid local government official in the country.
In releasing its Public Sector Rich List report, TPA said that in 2013-14 Jill Stannard earned £411,000. She took early retirement from her post in April 2013 but took home an £87,000 lump sum in salary and a £297,000 payment to top-up to her pension.
According to the data – which is now dated – the former chief executive of Salford City Council, Barbara Spicer, earned more than her counterpart in Manchester, a much larger authority.
Spicer was paid £220,570, while Sir Howard Bernstein at Manchester picked up £203,934. Topping them both though was Ged Fitzgerald at Liverpool, who earned £232,340.
The research reveals that in the North West Cumbria County Council and Oldham Borough Council had the most employees receiving remuneration in excess of £100,000 with 25 each.
In total in the region there were 332 people earning more than £100,000, 50 pocketing more than £150,000, 11 earning over £200,000 and one more than £300,000.
