Start-up fashion firm scores with selfie generation

A BUSINESSWOMAN says she is “overwhelmed” by the early success of her online fashion label, which has racked up sales of more than £4m just six months after launch.

Digital marketing executive Victoria Molyneux, 27,  from Crowton near Northwich launched Want That Trend in April, using Facebook as a platform for her clothing designs.

Despite the scale and marketing might of the likes of ASOS and Boohoo, the business has rocketed, with more than 905,000 Facebook fans to date.

Molyneux, who had her first child 11 weeks ago, explained: “Despite the rise of online fashion I couldn’t very often find something I wanted to wear.

“I also found that some of the pictures of the clothes were a bit mis-leading too, which is why, through Facebook I decided to start posting selfies to show what the clothes really look like. The response has been incredible. I have been oveerwhelmed by how fast the business has taken off.”

The launch of a range of festive dresses has also been a huge success since being launched on the website in October – more than 87,000 dresses – which cost £19.95 – have been sold leading to £1.8m in sales. santa dress want that trend

The introduction of a range of matching childrenswear outfits has further fuelled the success with an additional 15,100 items sold totalling a further £226,000 in sales.

Want That Trend operates out of a warehouse in Stockport, while its clothes are manufactured by a company in Leicester.

Molyneux said: “I design quite a lot of the product and it really helps that we are using a UK manufacturer, as this means we can get to market quickly.

“We are looking at taking more space at the warehouse as we are having to expand to keep up with demand. We are starting to market in Canada, also on Facebook soon, as my manufacturing partner has contacts there, so that will hopefully minimise the risk.”
