The 80-year-old son of Oldham who set up the Stoller Charitable Trust 20 years ago, ploughed £50m into the organisation in 2014 alone.
The diminutive businessman, who owned Seton Healthcare, the inventor of the tubular bandage, and who made £60m from the flotation of Bolton white goods retailer AO.com, has backed numerous good causes in the region over the past few years.

Former Manchester United, Manchester City and Scotland striker Denis Law, 75, and England, Blues forward and now businessman Francis Lee, 71, are both to receive a CBE for services to football and charity.
Mrs Jean Oglesby from Bowdon. The wife of Bruntwood founder Michael, Jean was a co-founder of the Oglesby Charitable Trust, which supports a range of arts and cultural projects.
Pets at Home founder Anthony Preston from Antrobus, Cheshire for Business and philanthropy.
