SALE-based solicitor Phillip Rhodes at law firm Slater Heelis has become the first male in Manchester to become a fully qualified family mediator.

Mediation is a popular option for couples who separate because it can help reduce tension and hostility by allowing families to make decisions privately themselves rather than have decisions imposed on them by the courts.

Rhodes, associate at Slater Heelis, said: “Family mediation can be a more amicable and cost-effective route to reaching an early agreement than more traditional negotiations between solicitors or court proceedings.”

“Mediation is not a form of relationship counselling. It occurs after the relationship has already broken down and is a more sensible way for many people to agree what arrangements to make about finances, property and children.”
