Satellite town to get Aldi store

PLANNING permission has been granted for an Aldi store in the centre of the Bolton satellite town Westhoughton.

HOW Planning acted as planning consultant for the retailer, while The Harris Partnership acted as architect.

The scheme will include a 20,000 sq ft store as well as car parking for 98 spaces. The site includes the former Glebe Mill site and the Bolton Road town centre car park which will be relocated as part of the plans.

Aldi will redevelop the site, building a modern, high quality store which will complement the existing retail offer in Westhoughton and create in the region of 40 new jobs.

Keith Jones, associate at HOW Planning said: “We look forward to seeing this important site being redeveloped.

“It represents a significant investment by Aldi, which will not only add to the visual appearance of the town centre but will also create local jobs and further enhance consumer choice as well as increasing footfall to this part of the town centre.”
