£10m purchase of iconic former fire station complete

PROPERTY developer Allied London has completed its purchase of London Road Fire Station in Manchester for a figure believed to be about £10m.

Allied London held its first consultation for London Road – originally a fire, police and ambulance station and coroner’s court that opened in 1906 – in December of last year.

Chief executive, Michael Ingall told of Allied London’s initial ideas for the iconic building and invited guests to write down their ideas for London Road in newly designed, ‘Create London Road’ scrapbooks.

Ingall said: “The variety of responses we received above all showed the need for London Road to have a mixture of uses – including a hotel, signature and all day restaurants, workspace, apartments, visitor attractions, live music venues, cinema, museums and galleries.

“The results also showcased people’s desire to see inside this building – which has stood empty for approximately 30 years. To celebrate our completion on London Road we are issuing three exclusive and previously unseen photographs from inside the building.

“This one-off collection of specially commissioned photographs will be released to members of the London Road Club, this week, with subsequent photos being revealed monthly.”

The images from inside London Road are a prequel to a programme of low-key events that will be held in the courtyard and ground floor of London Road introducing people to the space before Allied London begins external and internal renovation works towards the end of the year.

Ingall continued: “Our work at London Road will all be geared towards creating an experience. We will launch the new London Road landmark with events and experiential programming inspired by international venues later this year.”

For the complete series of photos, to be issued this Friday, join the London Road Club at createlondonroad.com. Members will receive exclusive, monthly photographs as well as news updates on London Road.
