Card payments firm set to recruit 70 staff

THRIVING card payments provider Handepay is on course to recruit more than 70 new staff in 2016.

The Haydock, Merseyside-based merchant services specialist  – which provides card payment processing to 28,000 businesses across the country – has already added 20 new positions in the first quarter of the year.

Soaring demand since Handepay launched its unique pricing strategy to increase savings for UK businesses last year, will see it bolster its 100-strong workforce by a further 53 during the remainder of this year.

The boom in contactless and traditional chip and PIN card transactions has also caused a surge in requirement for Handepay’s services across the country, with one billion contactless payments now being made each year, according to the UK Cards Association.

The new positions already filled by Handepay, which is marking its 10th anniversary in May, are in sales and sales support, IT, marketing and admin positions.

In the second quarter of 2016, Handepay plans to recruit additional business development managers to deal with increased demand for card payment terminals, plus an additional HR professional, IT staff and further admin positions.

The company, which offers in-house training as standard to all new staff, has also invested heavily in developing existing staff, including supporting employees through NVQ qualifications with the local Chamber of Commerce and encouraging other qualifications amongst staff by working with local colleges on vocational courses.

Handepay also hosts regular training sessions, bringing in external experts to develop areas within the business, extending their employer impact across the region.

Following a landmark deal with a new acquiring partner, Handepay says it is uniquely placed to offer independent businesses massive savings on processing card payments.

Managing director Andy Peake said: “Independent businesses are catching up with the public’s demand to be able to pay on card for their purchases and Handepay must ensure it has the capacity to help every one of them.

“With the addition of these new recruits, Handepay is in the ideal position to give more independent businesses the convenience they seek from taking card payments, meaning they never have to turn a customer away again.

“We’ve been in business for 10 years now and have helped tens of thousands of businesses save money and grow by allowing their customers to pay in the way that they want to.

“The growth in card payments – and in particular contactless payment – over the past year or two has been incredible. The UK is at the forefront of this explosion in new ways to pay and it’s an exciting time to be in this industry.”
