New regional managing partner for law firm

LAW firm Irwin Mitchell has announced the appointment of Roy Beckett as its regional managing partner in Manchester.

A real estate specialist, Beckett joined Irwin Mitchell from DLA Piper in February 2013, when he moved with a 14-strong team which also included partners Anita Weightman, Patrick Duffy and Tony Weightman.

He becomes regional managing partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office on May 1, and will take over the role following the retirement of Grahame Codd who has been with the firm for 30 years.

Beckett will also continue in his role as head of Irwin Mitchell’s business legal services division in Manchester.

He said: “I would of course like to pay tribute to the fantastic work Grahame has done for Irwin Mitchell in Manchester and I am thrilled about the chance to lead the office and certainly look forward to continuing his work and building a strong team in Manchester with a reputation for providing first class business and personal legal services in the North West.”

Codd joined Irwin Mitchell in 1986 and founded the firm’s serious injury team and in 1993 launched the firm’s Leeds office.

In 2006, he led Irwin Mitchell’s merger with Alexander Harris and opened the Manchester office in January 2007.

Codd said: “I have very much enjoyed my time leading the Manchester office and I am very pleased and fortunate to be able to hand over the responsibility to Roy who I know will excel in the role.

“Last year I was able to hand over to Jonathan (Betts) the role of leading the PI Team in Manchester and he is doing a great job. I shall be continuing in a part-time consultancy role at Irwin Mitchell, concentrating on projects for our personal injury division nationally.

“I have great confidence that Roy will lead the Manchester office to develop further over the coming years as Irwin Mitchell pushes forward with its strategic growth plans.”
