Food manufacturer launches new skills hub in city

AIM-listed Real Good Food has launched a new Liverpool Development Centre and Academy to serve as an international hub for food manufacturing innovation and cake decoration skills.

The company, which owns a number of well-known names in the food manufacturing market, has recently restructured into three divisions: cake decoration, food ingredients and premium bakery.

The opening of its state-of-the-art Development Centre will add to the Liverpool company’s global toolkit – allowing further product development, innovation and refinement across all group operating companies.

The Centre will be a platform for the inspirational application of Real Good Food products and will allow the company to embrace and test emerging technologies in ingredients, processes and packaging.

The new facility based in Wavertree also incorporates an Innovation Centre – which has been fitted with world-class baking equipment and top-of-the-range technology as well as The Renshaw Academy which will train and develop students and industry professionals from all over the world in the latest techniques in cake decoration. The Academy aims to partner with Liverpool City College.

Real Good Food executive chairman Pieter Totte said: “We are always looking for ways to be innovative and the Real Good Food Liverpool Development Centre is a place where our experts can explore, create, teach and learn with some of the best equipment in the world.

“There is a growing global market for our products and we want customers to be inspired to bake at home with our top of the range, creative ingredients.

“We have a long and proud association with the City of Liverpool and its people and through our Renshaw factory have been a major employer here for many years.

“The Development Centre is an important initiative and investment for us and I can think of no better city in which to base this world leading facility.”

Liverpool City College principal Elaine Bowker said:“Baking and cake decoration is an incredibly skilled and creative trade and this investment here  in Liverpool by Real Good Food will not only benefit the local community, but will serve as a global hub for food technologists and scientists, bakers and other creatives working in the food industry.

“We are very excited to be working with Real Good Food in this world-class facility.”
