Chess moves to buy Lancashire ICT rival

CHESHIRE-based ICT services company Chess has acquired Burnley rival Lanway, which has a turnover of nearly £22m.

The deal follows hard on the heels of the Alderley Edge firm’s purchase of Pinnacle CDT – with offices in Glasgow and Stockton-on-Tees – for £2.8m two weeks ago.

Lanway’s services include ICT product supply and installation, storage, hosted and cloud solutions, managed services, networking infrastructure, data security, professional services, business continuity, unified communications and systems management.

Its team of experts in Burnley takes the Chess headcount to 550. The value of the latest deal was undisclosed.

Chess founder and chief executive David Pollock said: “Lanway shares our passion for delivering technological advantage to customers, our acquisition of Lanway is another step on our growth journey, helping to bring our vision to life.

“Together with Lanway’s expertise, we have the talent and technology needed to deliver truly integrated solutions across enterprise, mobile and cloud environments.”

Richard Btesh, director of Chess, added: “This acquisition of Lanway shows other potential sellers in the telecoms, data and ICT sector that Chess remains the stand-out choice for those selling all or part of their business.

“We’re ready and waiting to take advantage of the consolidation of customers and relationships.”
