What’s keeping you in your job?

QUALITY of work and job satisfaction are the most powerful drivers keeping North West’s business leaders in their jobs.

The Manchester-based Tindall Perry Partnership – the specialist recruitment consultancy – approached 250 of the region’s senior business figures to find out what keeps them loyal to a business.

Tindall Perry surveyed managing directors, chief finance officers, chief executive officers, chief operating officers, financial directors, operations directors and heads of strategy working in companies of all sizes in the manufacturing, retail, leisure and FMCG sectors.

Some 49% of respondents stated that the quality of work – how interesting, challenging or diverse the role is – and job satisfaction are the most important factors that keep them in their current post.

This was followed by remuneration and package (25%) and the profile or size of the company (18%).

Other stated motivators were job security and benefits including flexible working.

The final question asked whether they were considering changing roles in the next 12 months. Up to 45% said they were looking to make a move.

Vernon Lord – managing director of the Individual Restaurant Company – said: “The findings of this survey are interesting and certainly chime with my own experiences.

“I have always sought out roles that would – provided I was good at the job – reward me very well financially.”

Leyla Tindall – managing director of Tindall Perry – said: “2016 is set to be a year of transition for companies of all sizes across the North West.

“Some of the region’s most influential and high profile leaders have been in their current posts for many years, but it seems that things might be starting to change as we are seeing more movement in the market.

“This survey gives a great insight into what keeps people in a role and what is driving professionals to look for new opportunities.”
