Bid to bring historic city centre building back to life

PLANS to bring back to life a Liverpool building which dates back to 1785 have been submitted.

Curtins has tabled the proposal for Beetham Court on Tithebarn Street, which is said to be decaying and needing modernisation.

The office building, which is not listed although it is in the city centre conservation area, has recently been used by Merseytravel staff, but now needs updating.

Its last revamp took place in 1997 when it was transformed into open plan offices spread over five floors in a addition to a basement.

The new plans are for a retail units on the ground floor, offices and eight apartments on the top storey, while the basement would become a conference room and gym for workers.

Merseytravel staff vacated the building in 2013 when the transport authority relocated from Hatton Gardens and George’s Dock Building to the new Mann Island development.
