Firm gets Mersey Tunnel boost with £50K contract

THE award of a contract to service fire alarms, intruder alarms and gas suppression systems in both Mersey road tunnels is prompting the opening of a new branch for an expanding firm.

The £50,000 contract award from Merseytravel has been secured by Jackson Fire & Security’s Bromborough office.

The firm won the contract against strong competition and is the latest in a string of new clients signed up by the firm in Merseyside.

And branch manager Lee Fowler today revealed this latest tender success is prompting the company to open a second Merseyside branch, in Liverpool city centre, in September.

Jackson Fire & Security will maintain suppression and detection systems within the Mersey Tunnel estate which includes ventilation stations, various pump rooms, control centre, office accommodation and maintenance workshops.

Under the three-year contract, the firm is also on call to attend site if the systems are activated during an incident.

Lee Fowler said:  “I’ve been in the industry on the Wirral for 20 years.  I started as an engineer and became a service manager with a local firm, before joining Jackson Fire & Security six years ago.  I’m so excited to have won this prestigious work from Merseytravel.

“Jackson Fire & Security doesn’t stand still.  It is innovative and because it opens local offices and appoints local people, we can respond very quickly.  Customers also aren’t paying for an engineer from another part of the country to drive to their premises to carry out maintenance.  We can price competitively and I’m looking forward to winning more work.”

He added: “We’re finalising arrangements for premises in Liverpool city centre and are recruiting engineers.  The branch will open in September.”

Merseytravel Technical Services manager, Gerry Nolan, said: “We are looking forward to a mutually supportive working relationship which I am confident will give Merseytravel value for money during the term of this new contract.”

Jackson Fire & Security employs 35 people across branches in Warrington, Wirral, Mold, Cambridge and Glasgow.

Formed in 1991, the company has built a reputation for quality, reliability and service, and is a NSI and Siemens’ gold-accredited partner for fire and systems.
