World food firm to launch 20 spice blends for 20-year anniversary

STOCKPORT-based EHL Ingredients is celebrating 20 years in operation this year and plans to launch 20 new blends over the course of 2016, with ten new products launching this month, in a bid to reach its £7m sales target.

The first ten new blends launching include a Korean BBQ seasoning, Mitmita spice mix from Ethiopia, Malaysian satay seasoning, Indonesian fish curry powder and an Old Bay seasoning from the US.

The company, which employs 30 staff, achieved year-end sales of £5.8m last year and it is aiming to reach £7m by the end of 2016.

EHL is diversifying its portfolio with bespoke, as well as organic and free-from products to tap into these burgeoning markets.

Tasneem Backhouse, managing director, said: “We’re aiming for 2016 to be our biggest year yet as we aim for our highest sales targets to date. Launching 20 new herb and spice blends is a key part of our 20 year celebrations, to raise the profile of our blending expertise and capabilities.

“Our product development team has worked hard to research, trial and launch these ten new blends and we’re excited and confident they will be well received by the food industry.”

EHL, based on the Broadstone Industrial Estate in Reddish, supplies around 300 food ingredients and boasts a 200-strong organic range as well as over 90 custom blends.

Its products are sold into the food manufacturing, wholesale, retail and catering sectors and used in end products, such as breads and bakery items, ready meals, healthy snacks and soups and sauces. They are also sold to speciality food shops, delis and organic retailers across the UK.
