Traffic Alert: Long delays on M61 following collision

SEVERE delays are expected this morning on the northbound M61 following an accident between junction 6 at Horwich near Bolton and junction 8, Chorley, which closed all three lanes.

This follows a collision at 3am which at least one vehicle left the road. Highways England said the incident was not expected to clear until 8.30am at the earliest.

A diversion route is available following the solid black triangle’ symbol from J6.

This involves taking customers onto the A6027 from the first left turn exit from the J6 roundabout where it then meets the A6.

Taking the A6 to then proceed north running parallel with the M61 motorway until it reaches the A674 junction in Chorley.

Turning right on the A674 will take customers a short distance to J8 of the M61 to rejoin the northbound carriageway.
