Your top 10 – New Anfield high street, airport jobs and a TV travel firm’s MBO

AMBITIOUS plans have been unveiled to rebuild an entire high street next to Anfield, home to Liverpool Football Club.

The high street, with brand new shops, commercial premises, homes and apartments, would see scores of derelict buildings demolished or rebuilt.

It is hoped the changes, which would be carried out in phases over the next three to four years, will attract new businesses keen to take advantage of a unique location next to one of the world’s most famous football clubs.

It’s a bold move at a time when major high street names like BHS are closing their doors but perhaps it will mark the start of a high street renaissance?

Meanwhile, budget airline Jet2.com is expanding its Manchester presence with 300 jobs and is hosting a recruitment roadshow for pilots, engineers and cabin crew at Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport next Thursday.

At the other end of the travel market, £80m turnover luxury travel company ITC has completed a management buyout, backed by Northedge Capital.

Northedge has taken a majority stake and will support chief executive Jen Atkinson and her senior team to deliver on planned investment in IT, management, staff, product and customer service.

Chester-based ITC recently featured in BBC documentary, “The Millionaires Holiday Club”, covering luxury holidays to Barbados, Jamaica and India.

But I’d take last week’s camping holiday in Pembrokeshire over such exotic locations every time. No, not really. It’s good to be back. Enjoy your weekend.
