Panacea gets college contract
MANCHESTER-based developer Panacea Property Development has been selected as preferred development partner by Wakefield College in West Yorkshire.
The college is seeking to dispose of its 10 acre Thornes Park Campus just off the A636 between Junctions 39 and 40 of the M1 in Wakefield.
Panacea will be working with Wakefield College and key local stakeholders to create a plan to regenerate the partly vacated campus.
The College is vacating the Thornes Park Campus and moving operations to the Wakefield City Campus close to Westgate Railway Station in the city centre.
The old Thornes Park Campus will be subject to a design-led regeneration process which reflects its surroundings in the centre of a listed Park. Details of the proposals for the site will be announced in the coming months.
Panacea and Wakefield College have jointly engaged Hometown Plus, a community engagement and social regeneration company, to work alongside them on a series of meetings* to consult with the public later this month to understand how the Park is currently used and to create an understand of how they can participate in the process.

“The site has such great potential and any proposals we put forward for consideration will be very much design-led to ensure the integrity of the surrounding Park is retained.”
Sam Wright, Principal at Wakefield College said: “Panacea Property Development was the obvious partner for us to work with due to its desire to work closely with the local community ensuring that the Thornes Park Campus is sensitively redeveloped. The site is a valuable asset for the college and for Wakefield.
“It is vital that we are able to continue to invest in the development of our University Centre in particular and we’re working with Panacea to ensure that the Thornes Campus is reused for the benefit of local people.”
Panacea has appointed specialist heritage and conservation architects, Buttress, to work with them on their plans for the site. Zerum is also appointed as planning consultants.
