Robertson starts work on £5.5m facility at Kings Wharf

OLDHAM-based Robertson North West has begun work on global offshore wind specialist DONG Energy’s £5.5m operations and maintenance facility in Kings Wharf, Seacombe, on the Wirral.

Robertson North West, part of the £300m turnover infrastructure group Robertson, has started on site on the western shore of the River Mersey at the entrance to the Birkenhead dock system.

The base will house 45 full-time staff, serving the Burbo Bank off-shore wind farm, as well as the new Burbo Bank Extension due for completion in 2017.

Office space, changing, welfare and ancillary facilities will be arranged over two floors with a single storage warehouse.

Carl Wilde, regional managing director of Robertson North West, said: “We look forward to working closely with DONG Energy to deliver this project, and providing them with a quality base from which they can operate and maintain their wind farms.”

Brian McMorrow, senior construction engineer at DONG Energy, said: “It was important for us to use a regionally based construction company so we’re really pleased to be working with Robertson North West.

“DONG Energy is committed to investing in the UK and we are very proud to be playing an important role in the redevelopment of this part of Kings Wharf.”

Completion is scheduled for mid-2017.
