Holly hotel inspector…Gotham’s five-star rating confirmed

MANCHESTER’S Hotel Gotham is celebrating after having its five-star rating confirmed by the AA following a series of inspections and quality checks.

The boutique hotel on King Street which launched in April 2015 claims to have established a reputation for decadence and northern charm.

Its five-star confirmation follows a successful year to date for Gotham, with year-on-year occupancy rates growing 10% from 79% to 89% during August, while visitors from as far afield as China and the Middle East have become regulars at the hotel.

Gotham was marked on its cleanliness, service, food, bedrooms, bathrooms and hospitality standards, being praised for its ‘very high quality’ bedrooms and ‘amazing’ range of gins at its members-only bar, Club Brass.

Mario Ovsenjak, hotel general manager, said: “We always knew Hotel Gotham would bring something a little different to the city and would provide guests with an alternative to the run-of-the-mill luxury hotels found up and down the country; however, the challenge was to maintain the initial excitement and keep momentum going.

“We’re extremely proud that we’ve seen a marked increase in occupancy rates during the summer, as it’s traditionally a time when city centre hotels tend to see a dip in figures; it’s a true testament to the hard work and dedication from every single member of our in-house team. We’re thrilled to have had our five stars cemented by the AA and are looking forward to taking Gotham to the next level.”

Part of the Bespoke Hotels group, 60-bedroom Gotham has bolstered its workforce in recent months, with the appointments of George Constantinou as manager of the hotel’s restaurant, Honey, while former Hilton employee Daniel Marsden has been appointed to head up operations at Club Brass.

Joining from the Malmaison Group, Constantinou, who has worked in the hospitality industry for 16 years, said: “Gotham has become a destination hotel in Manchester and I’m really excited to be part of the team at such an exciting time. It’s full steam ahead now for Christmas and I’m confident that my previous experience will stand me in good stead to ensure a smooth-running, slick festive season.”

The hotel, which is one of only two five-star hotels in Manchester, is now aiming for an annual average occupancy rate of 90%.

Ovsenjak added: “Manchester’s hotel and social scene is continually evolving, so it’s important that we don’t become complacent and that we listen to what our guests want. Keeping things fresh and bringing in more talent will be at the top of our agenda as we approach our second birthday in the spring.”
