European beer hall planned for historic Northern Quarter building

MANCHESTER bar operator NoHo has taken the final remaining leisure unit at the landmark Sevendale House in the Northern Quarter, to take the number of its number of venues in the building to three.

Sevendale House owner Philip J Davies Holdings has agreed a 10-year lease on the 4,575sq ft basement unit with NoHo, which also runs NoHo and Dusk til Pawn at Sevendale, as well as Wood & Co on South King Street.

NoHo is owned by Simon Ching and its director is Rebecca Race.

Cooper Hall will open this winter as a European beer hall, offering an impressive selection of beers from the continent, craft ales, wines and cocktails.

Completed in September 2014, the renovation of one of the most significant office refurbishment schemes undertaken in Manchester in recent times has seen a number of high profile tenants call Sevendale House their home, including Ticketmaster, Urban Bubble, Code Computerlove, Liquid Personnel and Foundation Coffee on the ground floor.

The letting sees the final remaining leisure unit in the 120,000sq ft Grade II-listed building filled, with the most of the 59,000sq ft Grade A office space let within the first year of reopening.

Mark Davies, director of Philip J Davies Holdings, said: “Simon and Rebecca have been tenants for more than eight years.

“Both NoHo and Dusk til Pawn have been extremely successful and it makes perfect sense to continue our relationship with them.

“The name Cooper Hall ties in beautifully with the history of the building, which was built as a trade warehouse for I.J. & G Cooper in 1903.

“Since the refurbishment of the building in 2014, we’ve had an incredible response to both the commercial and leisure space available. While we have had considerable interest in the basement unit formerly occupied by Copacabana I wanted to wait until we found the right tenant and I’m confident Cooper Hall will be a great addition to the building.”

Ching, owner of NoHo, said: “We’ve built up a loyal following at both NoHo and Dusk til Pawn over the years and when the basement of Sevendale House became available, we were keen to take the space and develop a new concept which would sit seamlessly alongside our other venues.”
