Warning over major delays on route into Liverpool

MOTORISTS on Merseyside are being warned of major disruption as lanes on the main route into Liverpool from the east closed for work on a £100m retail park to be carried out.
Salford-based developer Derwent Group is transforming Edge Lane Retail Park into Liverpool Shopping Park.
Work starts today (Tuesday October 18) on upgrading utilities serving the scheme and there are warnings of closures, prompting advice to motorists to allow extra time for their journey or to find alternative routes.
Edge Lane Drive/Edge Lane from today will be reduced to a single lane between Mill Lane and Montrose Way for three weeks between 9.30am and 3.15pm.
From next Monday (October 24), Mill Lane – which runs from Edge Lane to Binns Road – will be closed for a week from 7.30pm to 5am so Scottish Power and BT can work on the road.
A Derwent Group spokesman said: “We are very sorry for the delays and any inconvenience this may cause for motorists travelling in and out of Liverpool.
“We’re working closely with Liverpool City Council as part of their Better Roads campaign to give motorists as much notice as possible of any delays and diversions.
“The end result will be improved roads and links to the new £100m Liverpool Shopping Park, which will bring 41 new retail and leisure operators to this part of the city and create more than 3,000 new jobs.”
Roadworks on Edge Lane will continue until July 2017.
