Bank of England maintains interest rates

THE Bank of England has opted not to rock the boat on interest rates by maintaining them at their historic low.

Today’s meeting of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee saw rates held at 0.25%.

The decision – the first since Mark Carney revealed he would be staying on as governor until 2019 – had been widely expected.

There was also no change on Quantative Easing.

The Bank reduced the rate to 0.25% in August to try and calm the economy following volatility post-Brexit.
