Meanwhile, to update a morning traffic alert, the northbound carriageway of the M6 remains affected between junctions 31 for Preston and Junction 32 for Blackpool following a HGV fire last night.

Two lanes have now been opened to traffic.

The HGV was transporting a load of aerosols and car wax which have spilled across the carriageway causing damage to the road.

The Highways Agency has advised that road users may wish to consider exiting the M6 at J31 and take the A59 westbound towards Preston. Then take the A6 northbound. At J1 for the M55, take the eastbound exit to rejoin the M6 at J32.
