TV chef serves up expansion

POPULAR TV chef Simon Rimmer has expanded his award-winning restaurant, Greens.

The Didsbury-based vegetarian eatery has had a £170,000 revamp after the site next-door was converted into an enlarged kitchen, dining room and bar.

The expansion, funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland, has taken the number of people that Greens can accomodate 48 to 80.

Established 18 years ago, Greens is one of Manchester’s most popular locations.  Such is the demand for a table at the restaurant that up to 200 people a week were turned away prior to the expansion.

The restaurant specialises in providing quality vegetarian food, made from locally sourced produce where possible.

Mr Rimmer,  who owns Greens with business partner Simon Connolly said: “We have been considering expanding Greens for some time as no restaurant likes to disappoint potential customers by turning them away.

“Our challenge was to expand the capacity whilst maintaining the restaurant’s friendly atmosphere.  We are very pleased with the result as it significantly increases the number of people we can accommodate at any one time without compromising the original surroundings.”

In addition to the success of the restaurant,  and his Earle eatery in Hale, Cheshire, Simon co-presents the BBC2 cooking show Something for the Weekend.

Chris Salt and Emma Oultram from RBS in Manchester, together with Rohan Whittle from Lombard, the asset finance arm of the RBS Group provided funding for the expanson.
