City centre and Altrincham TSB branches to close

TSB branches on Manchester city centre’s Cross Street and in the affluent outpost Altrincham are among 29 sites the challenger bank is to close.

TSB, owned by Spanish lender Sabadell, says no jobs will be lost as a result of the UK-wide closures with staff offered alternative roles at other sites.

The company also says many of its employees already work at more than one TSB branch.

The latest announcement takes the total number of outlets to close this year to 38, leaving 550 remaining as customers move online.

“While we continue to focus on upgrading the branches that people use most, some locations are very quiet, serving fewer than 200 people a week,” a TSB spokesperson said. “In some cases this is because there is another branch less than a mile away.”

The news follows the announcement two weeks ago that HSBC is to close five of its branches across the North West.
