Whistl depot move threatens Warrington jobs

Some 200 jobs are at risk at a Warrington depot as postal delivery company Whistl is moving its operation to a new hub in Bolton.

The company has confirmed that the move to Bolton announced yesterday (Thursday, February 9) would mean that it would be consolidating its Leeds and Warrington sites, where 170 and 200 people are employed respectively.

Whistl has taken a 10-year lease on a 225,000 sq ft site at Harworth Group’s Logistics North development and is creating 100 jobs there.

A consultation is underway and the postal company said it had given employees that work at its Warrington and Leeds sites the chance to work at the new Bolton facility.

The company, which is the UK’s second largest postal operator, said it would be able to increase capacity by 33% at the new site compared to its Warrington and Leeds sites combined.
