£21m scheme is largest ever for Cube

Cube, the private sector arm of Great Places Housing Group, has announced the acquisition of its largest ever scheme – a £21m development in Gorton, Greater Manchester.

The Melland Road site has been purchased with plans to build 131 family homes.

This will include a range of two, three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached properties available for sale, shared ownership and private rent.

Planning applications are now underway and work is due to begin on the scheme this summer. Cube are working with Seddon on the scheme, and the first sales are forecast for early 2018.

This landmark development follows a £6.8m turnover for Cube in 2016 and, the company says, underlines its ambitious private sector development plans for the future.

Ben Townsend, head of private sector development at Great Places said: “The scale of the Melland Road development is indicative of Cube’s aspirations.

“Not only will the site provide over 130 quality homes for sale and private rent, the profits generated will be of great benefit in supporting Great Places’ wider work in communities.

“We are keen to build on the success of last year and increase our output in high demand areas, particularly across Greater Manchester, and remain in the market for opportunities for market sale and rent.

“We have ambitious plans for this arm of the organisation and the acquisition of Melland Road is a bold step in the right direction.”
