City centre law firm signs 10-year lease on state-of-the-art offices

Liverpool city centre law firm Goldsmith Williams is to relocate to a new office space in 20 Chapel Street after signing a 10-year lease.

The custom-designed 13,000 sq ft space will see the firm retain its strong presence in the heart of the Liverpool commercial district.

Bosses say the move will be a huge leap forward for the growing practice, seeing it opt for a modern, state-of-the-art premises.

Goldsmith Williams’ 165-strong staff is currently based in the historic Mersey Chambers, the home of the practice for the last 15 years.

The new office will reflect the firm’s contemporary and developing approach to client services, it says.

Over the past year, Goldsmith Williams has transformed its online services, including the Goldsmith Williams app, to provide one of the most innovative customer experiences in the sector.

Director of operations Adele Whittle said: “The move is very much a natural progression for us as a growing, modern practice.

“Goldsmith Williams began as two modest offices, in the city and Wirral, more than 30 years ago. After considerable growth, we then moved to our much-loved Mersey Chambers, which has been the firm’s home for 15 years now, and of course we will all be a little sad to say goodbye.

“But it is only logical that we now progress into a more modern, 21st century space in the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district. Our contemporary work practices – we are one of the only legal firms in the country to really embrace agile working – and innovative, technology-driven services, demand it.

The firm will gradually relocate its staff to the new office space in coming months. Business will continue as usual.

Completed in 2008, 20 Chapel Street comprises 155,000 sq ft of grade-a office space across 15 floors.

Canmoor purchased the freehold for the building in June 2016 and is investing £3m in a refurbishment programme at the scheme, which includes a significant expansion of the ground floor and reception area.

Sam Walker, director at Canmoor which purchased the freehold of 20 Chapel Street in June last year, said: “We are delighted with the progress that we are making at 20 Chapel Street and this letting to Goldsmith Williams is further testament to the quality of the scheme, its facilities and the building’s ability to attract major occupiers within Liverpool.

We have signed up a number of new occupiers in recent weeks, as well as re-gearing leases with existing occupiers who are keen to stay at 20 Chapel Street.

“Progress is also being made on the new enhanced reception area, which has recently commenced works on-site with completion due in late June and we also look forward to announcing the operator for the new café in the coming weeks.”
