Thumbs up for Siemens Campus family homes scheme

Manchester City Council has approved plans for the first phase of a new mixed-use development on the site of the Siemens Campus on Princess Parkway, West Didsbury in South Manchester.

Commercial property company Bruntwood has had planning approved for a 20,000sq ft three-storey office building and 48 surface car parking spaces and 92 new homes will be developed by Trafford Park-based PJ Livesey Group. The scheme will sit alongside the iconic Siemens headquarters and the new £65m Spire Manchester Hospital which opened in January.

Bruntwood is working with architects Sheppard Robson and landscape architects Planit-IE to deliver three new office buildings, set in a high-quality landscaped environment. The scheme will be delivered in stages, creating over 155,000 sq ft of Grade A office space with a mixture of surface and multi-storey parking.

The vision is to create a vibrant, sustainable mixed-use development on the site with the office space aimed at professional services, life sciences and technology companies.

Access to the commercial development will be via Barlow Moor Road.

Chris Roberts, Bruntwood development director said: “Due to the strategic location of the site and its proximity to Corridor Manchester there is the ability to support strong research connections with the Universities and the city. Our aspiration for the site is to create a significant place for employment to help with continued growth of the city region. With planning now approved for phase one, the intention is that the commercial campus will be fully developed and occupied by 2020.”

PJ Livesey director James Woodmansee, said: “Our scheme at Siemens will provide intelligently designed, high-quality family housing and apartments to meet both local demand and attract and keep new residents in the city.”

Robin Phillips, site director at Siemens Manchester, said: “This an important milestone for the development of the Didsbury site, and marks the start of a new phase of the plans for local area. We’re looking forward to working closely with Bruntwood and PJ Livesey in the coming months.”

Ed Britton, assistant director at Deloitte Real Estate, said: “The next two phases of the masterplan will serve as a catalyst to unlock the huge potential of the mixed use regeneration scheme at the Siemens Campus.  The development will bring forward exciting new commercial floor space, creating important opportunities and jobs for Manchester, while also delivering new high quality housing for young professionals and families.”
