Aviation news: Vicky flies high at Lufthansa and VLM’s double Dutch

GERMAN carrier Lufthansa has appointed Vicky Scherber as its new station manager to oversee the running of its operations in Manchester.
She moves to the North West from her role as Lufthansa’s process and quality manager for Austria, Italy, Switzerland and the Slovak Republic.
Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa General Manager UK & Ireland said: “The appointment of Vicky Scherber confirms the importance Lufthansa gives to our Manchester operation.
”She brings with her a wide experience of the Lufthansa business and this can only further enhance the level of service we are able to deliver to our customers in the North of England who choose to take advantage of Lufthansa’s reputation for punctuality and efficiency from their local airport.”
In her new role, Vicky Scherber will be responsible for all operational aspects of Lufthansa services – currently a total of 83 flights a week to Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg.
She said today: “I am really looking forward to the challenges ahead. Manchester is Lufthansa’s second biggest UK operation and consistently ranks as one of the top 25 worldwide, outside of Germany.
“My aim is to maintain the high level of customer care provided for Lufthansa passengers at Manchester and to look for opportunities to improve things even further.”
Meanwhile VLM Airlines is adding a second Dutch flight from Manchester from next month.
The weekday flight to Eindhoven, via London City airport, will begin on January 12.
Johan Vanneste, managing director of VLM Airlines, says: “The UK is a very important market for VLM Airlines and we are delighted to offer travellers access to Eindhoven.
“Our regular service to Rotterdam is already very popular with business travellers, and we expect our new route to Eindhoven will become well established within a short period of time.”
Flights will depart from Manchester at 6.55am, arriving into Eindhoven at 10.45am. Return flights depart from Eindhoven at 5.35pm, arriving back into Manchester at 8.15pm.
