Curtins picks up Bingham Davis assets

SOME of the assets and intellectual property of Bingham Davis, the Liverpool consulting engineer that went into liquidation earlier this month, have been bought by the Curtins Group.

Curtins, which operates in the same field, has its headquarters in Liverpool and 10 other offices including sites in Manchester and Kendal.

The company said Bingham Davis director Tim Bingham would be joining the business as part of the deal but around 10 other staff have been made redundant.

Chief executive Rob Melling said: “Tim has an outstanding reputation in the private developer market and will strengthen that part of our business. It’s good that a Liverpool business has been able to provide the solution to this issue.

“We’ve held our own during the recession and this acquisition is part of our strategy of reducing exposure to public sector markets. We’ve got a healthy mix of projects going forward in what remains a tough market.”

Liquidator Gary Lee, a partner at Begbies Traynor in Manchester, said: “In what is a very challenging market this is a positive outcome for the clients of Bingham Davis and the company’s creditors. When liquidation is the only alternative, a deal that preserves expertise and intellectual property must be considered a success.”

Bingham Davis has worked on large office buildings, major retail developments, industrial parks and multi-storey residential apartment blocks. The company traced its history back to 1928.
