Insulation company branches out to Liverpool

A 28-year-old entrepreneur is to launch the third branch of an insulation company he set up less than a year ago.
Imtinan Ahmad set up Impact Insulations’ first office in Ardwick, Manchester with an initial outlay of just £2,000 in March 2008.
Since then the company has turned over more than £1m in its first nine months and, having opened a second base in Coventry, is planning to open another in Liverpool next month.
The expansion has been self-funded, said Mr Ahmad, without additional bank loans or capital investment.
The company has a fleet of 22 vans and employs more than 50 people across the two sites and Mr Ahmad says the new Liverpool operation will create another 15 jobs, with a target of 45 by the end of May. Impact has taken space at Wellington Employment Park South, two miles north of the city centre.
The Manchester Business School graduate also has plans for the company to manufacture its own insulation material although a manufacturing site has not yet been identified.
Mr Ahmad said: “Insulating your home is one of the most environmentally friendly things an individual can do. We are hoping to go that stage further and make the actually insulation material greener too.
“We are currently researching the production of insulation from recycled plastic bottles. Subject to approval from the BBA (British Board of Agrément) we hope to be fitting it in people’s houses in the near future.”
He added: “We want to expand and we want to make money – that’s what business is about. Impact’s message is you can do that but in a responsible and respectful way that has benefits for both the community and the environment.”
