Amber Taverns seeks Business Masters glory

A NORTH West company reviving the troubled pubs sector is hoping to toast a landmark year with success in the North West Business Masters awards.
Lancashire-based Amber Taverns – which just three weeks ago went through a secondary MBO – is one of first companies to enter our new business awards scheme, which recognises excellence in the North West.
Chairman Clive Preston, set out why he feels Amber’s success deserves recognition:
“We purchase closed or distressed pubs, refit them to a high standard and reopen them selling national brands at realistic prices.
“We started the company five years ago with no properties and now own 58 pubs in the north of england with most of them in the NW.
Three weeks ago we did an MBO with the support of Legal & Ceneral Ventures (LGV) enabling our three original VCT shareholders to exit having nearly trippled their investment.
“We operate from a small office over one of our pubs in Preston with a small but highly-experienced team who have specialised for many years in the pub sector.
“Last year we were the only leisure operator to be included in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 for private companys with the highest sales growth over the previous 3 years. We came 57th with an average sales growth of 77%. We have been selected again for this years event,” he added.
