Google UK chief at free SME event

THE UK boss of Internet giant Google is leading a campaign to encourage more small businesses to trade online.

Matt Brittin will join Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council and Tom Bewick, head of Enterprise UK at an event on November 19 at the Manchester Business Park, by Manchester Airport.

Free to attend for local SMEs, business will be given the skills and confidence needed to create a website in as little as 20 minutes, and also tips o making the most of being online.

As many as 1.5 million businesses in the UK do not have a website. Many businesses are not yet online because they see it as too costly, too complicated or not necessary, often all three.

However a report by the Boston Consulting Group showed that SMEs that actively use the Internet reported overall sales growth more than four times greater than that of less active companies

The Getting British Business Online initiative has already helped over 90,000 UK businesses design and launch a free website with their own .co.uk address.
